King of Broken Hearts is a 2003 16.0 hand chestnut leopard stallion who is affectionately known as "Joey".
Bred by Goffenas Appaloosas of Roundup, Montana, Joey is strongly bred back to the Prince Plaudit bloodlines
that includes Prince Mac, Prince Edward and Prince David. Additionally, he also has a strong influence of
Mighty Bright. Since coming to Vision Quest Appaloosas to replace his aging maternal grandsire, he has
proved to have everything in a stallion we could want. His disposition is unrivaled and is the second thing that
people notice about him (his bright coloring being the first). Another invaluable attribute is his willing to do
anything asked of him regardless of the situation. True to Prince Plaudit tradition, his outstanding disposition
and aptitude passes onto his foals. Joey has earned a Register of Merit in Most Colorful and has additional
points in Halter, Hunter In Hand, Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle. His breath taking movement
has been described as the vision of the future in the way western pleasure horses should move and this very
movement causes him to stand out in the show ring. Many judges have remarked upon his "correct forward
motion" and he has been used as a model horse in the popular training DVD, "Any Horse Any Rider"
produced by Joey's trainer, Michelle Binder of Relational Riding Academy, who was extremely instrumental in
Joey's success in the show ring. Joey has also competed in several basic Dressage tests and the very popular
Extreme Trail Challenges.
Joey's first foal crop in 2006 was 100% leopards. He did not have a 2007 foal crop due to his show career and
followed up with having a 2008 and 2009 foal crop. From his first foal crop, his first daughter, Sheza King's
Reward, was campaigned very successfully in California also earning a ROM in Most Colorful as well as a
World Qualification. Another 2006 son, Mye Bright Hustler, actively competed in Junior Extreme Trail
Challenges before tragically breaking a leg while playing in early 2009.
Joey was not shown much in 2008 due to work and family commitments back east. In 2009, he was taken to
the Palouse Empire ApHC July show and ridden for the first time since August, 2008. After a light schooling,
he was shown in Hunter Under Saddle where he did passably well. More so, an elderly little old cowboy came to
the show who was having severe medical problems. He had an overwhelming need to be around horses and on
impulse, Darlene brought Joey out to give the gentleman a ride. Joey stood like a dream while the man
struggled to climb into the saddle and Joey never missed a step as he walked carefully around the ring. When
pending classes brought the ride to a halt, Joey once again stood stock still as the man had problems having the
strength to get off of him. For those that witnessed this ride and knew the circumstances behind it, there wasn't
a dry eye to be had. Joey was in better shape when he attended the Palouse Empire ApHC Fall show but a
technicality involving Circuit Hi Point Non Pro rider created a situation for Darlene not to be able to show Joey
in Hunt Seat classes. Bewildered, Joey remained in his stall except for exercise. It was plain to see that he
wanted to show. However, for Joey's many fans, he will be returning to the show ring in 2010.
